'Housebound' Albon seeks new deal and a move to London

Alex Albon hopes to be retained by Red Bull Racing for 2020, a prospect that would allow him to finally move out of his family's house.

The British-Thai racer was a surprising addition to the 2019 grid, having been called upon unexpectedly by Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko at the end of last year, when he was all set for a season of Formula E.

Instead, Albon was handed a race seat with Toro Rosso where he initiated his F1 apprenticeship, a learning-of-the-ropes that impressed Marko to the point where the 23-year-old was then promoted to Red Bull in an intra-team swap with Pierre Gasly.

Albon's next objective is to secure his seat with the Milton Keynes-based outfit, and then evacuate his mother's house in… Milton Keynes!

"Hopefully in years to come I will earn more money and be able to move out," Albon told the Press Association. "At the minute I am housebound, family housebound."

Albon admits that his family's home, where he lives with his mother, stepfather, three sisters and brother, is ideally located. But the young hopeful aspires to live on his own.

"Milton Keynes is a nice town and close to the Red Bull factory, but how do I say this? There are other places out there," he said.

"Maybe I need to live somewhere else and have a more extravagant lifestyle?

"I would definitely like to go to London. I have been thinking about it, but, again, it is about money. I need to score some bonus points."

And lots of bonus points at that Alex, given the high price of London real estate!
