Kimi Raikkonen labeled Alfa Romeo's qualifying session in Hungary "a disaster", the Finn believing his team isn't doing itself any favors in how its approaching certain things.
Raikkonen made up the rear on Saturday along with teammate Antonio Giovinazzi, the pair lingering at the bottom of the pack some over 1.5s adrift of poleman Lewis Hamilton.
And historically, it was the first time in his 315-Grand Prix career that the Iceman was slowest in a qualifying session.
The Saturday afternoon exercise was a familiar story for the Swiss outfit which has struggled with the one-lap pace of its C39 since the start of the season in Austria two weeks ago.
"It was obviously a disaster but there’s a lot of things we can do better and then, of course, we also have to find a lot more speed in the car," said the F1 veteran.
"Today was a disaster, but we’re certainly not getting the most out of what we have too.
"For sure we are not where we want to be, but I also don’t think we’re doing any favors to ourselves in certain things. Obviously, we have to do things better and improve."
Alfa team boss Fred Vasseur isn't expecting a turnaround of the Hinwil squad's fortunes on Sunday.
"We had made steps forward in the two races in Austria but we still have a lot of work ahead of us to get to the level where we need to be," said the Frenchman.
"The race will be difficult: we hope to have better pace, but starting on the back row, Kimi and Antonio will have their work cut out.
"We’ll still give 100%, though, and see where that gets us."
