F1 cars to carry special tribute to Anthoine Hubert at Spa

F1 teams will unite with their F2 counterparts this weekend at Spa by honouring the memory of Anthoine Hubert, one year on from the tragic passing of the young French driver.

Hubert - a Renault protégé earmarked for F1 - was killed at age 22 in a freak accident that took place in the F2 feature race at Spa in 2019.

Upon this weekend's emotional return to Spa, Formula 2 - which has permanently retired Hubert's #19 race number from the championship - has designed a special tribute logo that will appear in all F2 and F3 communications.

But the emblem celebrating Hubert's memory and achievements will also be displayed on all cars this weekend, including those from Formula 1.

"A minute of silence will be observed on the starting grid ahead of Saturday’s Feature Race, as the F2 family remembers Anthoine and shows his family and loved ones our unwavering support," announced the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

"On Sunday, F1 will also hold a minute of silence ahead of the Grand Prix, with many of Anthoine’s friends keeping his memory close to their hearts."
