McLaren is running a special one-off Gulf Oil livery on its MCL35M this weekend in Monaco, and Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo have followed with a pair of striking retro helmet liveries to boot.
Norris' lid includes the Briton's base design with a simple variation on Gulf's powder blue and orange colors but adds a touch of 'Wacky Racers' with a pair of painted-on period goggles, complete with faux leather strap.
The scheme is certainly one that will blend in seamlessly with McLaren's MCL35M charger.
By contrast, Ricciardo's day-glo papaya helmet is less sophisticated but beautifully honours McLaren's enduring legacy, with 'McLaren Cars' emblazoned in its original late 60s, early 70s typography - and a Kiwi.
Also, the Honey Badger's name is inscribed in McLaren's period cursive script. And for good measure, sticking with Ricciardo's habit of adding a few self-assured words on his lid, he reminds friends his rivals that "These Are My Streets".
The best part of the McLaren drivers' retro hard hats? They will both be auctioned off at a later date for the benefit of Mind, McLaren's partner and mental health charity.
