Pierre Gasly says he can't help but feel disappointed with Alpine's results this season, just like every other member of the Enstone squad.
Ahead of last weekend's Miami Grand Prix, Alpine boss Laurent Rossi publicly lashed out at the French outfit in an interview with French broadcaster Canal+.
Rossi denounced the team's underwhelming and "unacceptable" results in the first four races of the season and pointed to Alpine's poor execution and "amateurish" mindset that have left it well below its pre-season expectations.
As he put the F1 team on notice, Rossi threatened that there will be "consequences" if the outfit fails to turn around its fortunes in upcoming races.
"If they fail by giving 500% best and turning this ship around, there will be extenuating circumstances and it bodes well for the future," he said.
"If not, it’s the rule of business, there’s going to be consequences. And I won’t wait until the end of the year. The trajectory is not good. We need to fix the mindset of the team ASAP."
Rossi's scathing criticism reverberated through Alpine's ranks, starting with its drivers, the final link in the team's quest for performance.
Esteban Ocon suggested that he was keeping his head down and performing to the best of his abilities.
"I’m focusing on my racing," he said. "My job is to deliver on track and get the maximum out of the car."
As for Gasly who joined the team this year from Toro Rosso, the 27-year-old insists he is in "constant" communication with Alpine's top brass, meaning Rossi and Renault boss Luca di Meo.
The Frenchman also said that Alpine's productive race in Miami, where he and Ocon finished respectively P8 and P9 will have boosted the team's spirits.
"It’s a constant conversation with Laurent and Luca and everyone in the team," Gasly said in Miami.
"I think we are all disappointed with the start in the first four races but we didn’t manage to capitalise on all the opportunities we had and that is why I think today it’s good to score with both cars.”
"We obviously want more and be fighting with Mercedes and Ferrari and the guys ahead of us and I think we’re not too far from that."
