Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko has confirmed that AlphaTauri will undergo another name change ahead of the 2024 season in the wake of the team's management restructuring.
Long-standing AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost will retire from F1 at the end of the year and relinquish his position at the helm of the Faenza-based squad to Laurent Mekies, Ferrari's current sporting director.
Furthermore, former FIA executive Peter Bayer will join the squad as its new CEO.
Red Bull's sister outfit changed its identity from Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri in 2020 as part of the energy drink company's marketing efforts to promote its AlphaTauri clothing brand.
Unfortunately, the label's success has been underwhelming which has prompted Red Bull to abandon its branding scheme associated with F1.
"AlphaTauri will have two new leaders in 2024, Laurent Mekies and Peter Bayer," Marko told Kleine Zeitung.
"There will be new sponsors and a new name. The direction is clear: to follow Red Bull Racing as far as the regulations allow. In-house designs are the wrong way to go."
The Italian team will therefore rely on Red Bull Racing to use as many transferable parts as the technical regulations authorize.
The category will include its car's entire drivetrain, including the gearbox – which AlphaTauri is already sourcing from RBR – and likely front and rear suspension assemblies as well as hydraulic systems.
Regarding the team's driver line-up for 2024, Marko hinted that Yuki Tsunoda will likely remain with AlphaTauri for a fourth season, but Nyck de Vries' future appears to be in jeopady following the rookie's less than impressive results year-to-date.
"Basically, Yuki is having a very good season with unfortunate results and penalties, but the performance is right," Marko said.
"With Nyck de Vries, however, we are not satisfied, we are looking at that as well."
