Logan Sargeant enjoyed last weekend at Silverstone his strongest race yet this year, and the Williams rookie believes that everything is "slowly but surely coming together" for him.
The British outfit has stepped up its performance in recent races, thanks to a raft of updates that were introduced on its car last month in Montreal where Alex Albon finished seventh.
At Silverstone, the Anglo-Thai racer qualified P8 and equaled that performance on race day. But Williams' upgraded FW45 is undoubtedly also helping Sargeant raise his game.
The young American concluded his British Grand Prix just outside the points in P11, his best result year to date, and reckons that a top-ten finish isn't far off.
"It’s been a good two weekends back to back, we need to keep building on this," said Sargeant after last Sunday's race.
"I feel like I’m starting to drive much better and much closer to the limit, and more just what the car needs.
"Everything is coming together, slowly but surely. If we keep building on this, we will eventually get in the points here soon. That’s our goal."
Sargeant underscored the crucial support he's receiving from his Williams team while he views Albon's strong performance as a benchmark to aim for.
"I’m working as hard as I possibly can for the team, and they’re doing the same for me," he said. "Everyone is motivated. We’re close to points every weekend, and Alex is scoring.
"He’s been driving phenomenal. Even when I do a good lap, it’s still a few tenths on the table. It’s tough at times. I feel that if you’re not pushed outside of your comfort zone, you never grow.
"I feel like he’s really been able to help me with that. I’ve come into this year and seen what it takes. That’s shown me how hard I need to work to get to that level. Yeah.
"Slowly but surely, I’m getting there, that’s for sure. I just need to keep at it, and it will all come together."
