Yuki Tsunoda will in all likelihood start his Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday on the last row of the grid following AlphaTauri’s decision to fit a new power unit to the Japanese drivers AT04.

The FIA has confirmed that the unit will feature six new elements, all if which exceed the permitted allowance, which justifies the penalty and requirement to start the race from the back of the grid.

The elements are the following: Internal Combustion Engine, Turbo Charger, MGU-H, MGU-K, Energy Store, Control Electronics.

Tsunoda did not take part in Friday’s opening practice session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, having ceded his car to AlphaTauri rookie Isack Hadjar as part of the FIA’s mandatory young driver requirement.

AlphaTauri is currently last in F1’s Constructors’ standings, having scored just 10 points since the beginning of the season, eight of which were delivered by Tsunoda, with substitute Liam Lawson scoring 2 points in Singapore.
