Alex Albon admits that Formula 1’s whirlwind driver market is 'exciting,' with opportunities abound. But the Williams charger emphasizes that his primary focus remains on his team’s "upward progress".

Formula 1’s silly season kicked off in the wake of Lewis Hamilton's bombshell move to Ferrari for 2025, which opened a vacancy at Mercedes.

Albon’s name was immediately thrown into the hat by pundits as a potential Hamilton replacement, but Williams boss Jame Vowles was quick to remind everyone that the Anglo-Thai racer is contracted to the Grove-based outfit until the end of 2025.

However, that doesn't mean Albon is off the market entirely as contracts can be bought out. This was the course of action chosen by Alpine at the end of 2022 when it opted to acquire the services of Pierre Gasly from AlphaTauri.

While anything goes in the always unexpected world of F1, Albon insists his focus is on Williams, especially as the 27-year-old is quite bullish on his team’s prospects given its ongoing progress.

“It’s something that we know, let’s say it like that,” Albon told the Beyond the Grid podcast referring to F1’s wide open driver market.

“But on my side, I’m totally focused on the team. I feel like, I know it sounds generic, but it is very true that I love being a part of this team.

“I love this kind of building the team around, and this upwards progress that we’re on is very exciting.”

Nevertheless, Albon suggested that he’s keeping his theoretical options open for the future, just in case.

“I won’t deny and say there are opportunities around,” he added; “You know, there is a very fluid driver market right now and I think it’s exciting.

“It’s moving around, but my focus and my entire time is put on the team and me to go racing, and then that’s it.”
