In a move that signals their rising aspirations, Williams Racing has announced a multi-year contract extension with Alex Albon.

The agreement, which reflects Albon’s belief in his team’s upward trajectory, will take the pair’s partnership into the new era of Formula 1 regulations in 2026, a period ripe with potential for change within the sport.

Since joining Williams in 2022, the Anglo-Thai racer has consistently displayed exceptional determination and dedication, and his on-track performances have been instrumental in securing the team’s status as a strong midfield competitor in F1.

Albon's contributions were a key factor in Williams achieving in 2023 their best championship finish since 2017, securing a well-deserved seventh place in F1’s Constructors’ Championship.

The 28-year-old was earmarked by Red Bull as a potential candidate to succeed Sergio Perez at the Milton Keynes-based outfit.

The latter reportedly offered its former driver a “first option” on his services to bring him back to the championship winning team in 2026.

But Albon has opted to remain loyal to Williams for the foreseeable future.

"I am incredibly happy to be remaining with Williams Racing and to continue working with such a talented and dedicated team of people,” commented Albon.

“It has been a difficult start to the year but since joining Williams we have made significant progress together and I have seen the huge changes happening behind the scenes to take us back to the front of the grid.

“This is a long-term project that I really believe in and want to play a key role in which is why I have signed a multi-year contract.

“The journey will take time but I am confident we are building the right team to move forward and achieve great things in the years to come.”

James Vowles, team principal of Williams Racing added: "We are delighted to secure Alex's long-term future with Williams Racing.

“He has exceptional talent, technical input and dedication to the cause and this is a huge vote of confidence in Williams and the journey back to competitiveness that we are on.

“Since joining, Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure, and signing him for the long-term is a big piece of the puzzle of moving us up the grid.”
