Aston Martin has officially confirmed that legendary F1 car designer Adrian Newey will be joining the team in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the outfit's ambitious bid for Formula 1 supremacy.
The announcement, made on Tuesday at an event at Aston's headquarters, brings F1’s most successful designer to the Silverstone-based outfit, following months of speculation.
Team owner Lawrence Stroll, who has been on an aggressive recruitment drive, spared no effort in securing Newey’s services, outmaneuvering Ferrari in the race to sign the engineering genius.
Newey, who departs Red Bull after overseeing their dominant era, will now play a pivotal role in shaping Aston Martin’s future as they aim to become world champions.
The 65-year-old engineer will join Aston in March 2025 with the title of Managing Technical Partner, a newly created role, but Newey will have skin in the game as he will also be a prominent shareholder of Team Silverstone which will likely ensure his long-term involvement with the team.
“This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin team,” commented Aston Martin executive chairman Lawrence Stroll.
“It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of fighting for world championships. As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen.
“Our initial conversations confirmed that there was a shared desire to collaborate in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Adrian is a racer and one of the most competitive people I have ever met.
“When he saw what we have built at Silverstone – our incredible AMR Technology Campus, the talented group of people we have assembled and the latest wind tunnel in the sport – he quickly understood what we are trying to achieve.
“We mean business – and so does he. Adrian shares our hunger and ambition, he believes in this project, and he will help us write the next chapter in Aston Martin Aramco’s Formula One story.”

Newey’s arrival completes the assembly of an all-star technical team at Aston Martin, a project Stroll has been building meticulously.
The team’s technical department is already filled with top-tier talent from across the grid, with Newey set to lead a powerhouse of experienced engineers.
Andy Cowell, who was instrumental in Mercedes' dominance during the turbo-hybrid era, now serves as Aston’s Group CEO, while veteran F1 engineer Bob Bell holds the role of executive director (technical). Both Cowell and Bell bring a wealth of knowledge from Mercedes' years of F1 success and will be key figures in supporting Newey’s design philosophy.
The engineering team also includes several other high-profile names, such as Enrico Cardile, who recently departed Ferrari and who will serve as Aston’s chief technical officer. Dan Fallows, who worked closely with Newey at Red Bull and now serves as Aston’s technical director, will rejoin forces with the design legend in what promises to be a potent partnership.
Further bolstering the team are Luca Furbatto as engineering director, Eric Blandin, ex-Mercedes aero boss, as deputy technical director, and Tom McCullogh as performance director.
This formidable group, with numerous world titles and vast experience between them, will be instrumental in turning Aston Martin into a championship contender.
