Toto Wolff says he is “very happy” to see Ferrari looking strong ahead of the start of the new Formula One season.
Ferrari has shown a clear improvement compared to 2014 during this pre-season, with its power unit appearing to be a step forward while both Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel say the SF15-T is a good baseline for the team this year.
While Mercedes boss Wolff is wary of rivals trying to close the gap to his team, he told F1i it is important for the sport that Ferrari is more competitive than it was last season.
“I’m very happy to see Ferrari performing how they did,” Wolff said. “It’s important for Formula One that Ferrari is fast and competitive and I very much enjoy seeing them rebounding as far as you can see in testing.
“I think they could be one of the very strong competitors, another one is Williams.”
Ferrari finished 2014 with just two podiums to its name as the team failed to win a race for the first season since 1993.
