Jenson Button says he will be able to return to racing action at the German Grand Prix after the eye irritation that halted his running in FP2 was checked and cured.

The Briton was taken to hospital in Mannheim after complaining about the problem while driving in the afternoon session where he set the eight quickest time. Button has already come back to the Hockenheim paddock and tweeted that the foreign body lodged in his eye was found and removed.

The 2009 world champion adds that he is fit to come back at the wheel of his MP4-31 from Saturday morning’s third and final free practice session.

Should there be any doubt over Button's participation in the rest of the race weekend, McLaren-Honda can call up reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne available on site.

The Belgian ace already deputised for the sidelined Fernando Alonso in Bahrain last April and went on to score his first championship point by finishing tenth.
