Mick Schumacher enjoyed a victorious opening salvo today in India's MRF Challenge weekend at the Buddh International Circuit.

The son of seven time world champion Michael Schumacher, who lined up on pole for Race 1 flanked by Harrison Newey, got down to business at the outset and was never challenged in the 12-lap heat.

Schumacher crossed the line with a 1.7s advantage over Brazils' Felipe Drugovich and Britain's Harrison Newey.

The MRF Challenge is a four event series which kicked off in Bahrain last November, with each race weekend comprised of four heats scheduled over two days.

Schumacher's win, his third in the series, moves him up to second in the MRD standings.
