Ferrari gap bittersweet for Rosberg

Nico Rosberg admits it would be better for his title chances if Ferrari remains a threat to Mercedes in the upcoming races.

Following Lewis Hamilton's impressive start to the season - taking 93 points from a possible 100 in the opening four races - Rosberg hit back with his first win of the year in Spain. However, Hamilton finished second despite running behind Sebastian Vettel for much of the race, with Mercedes enjoying a significant performance advantage in Barcelona.

Having beaten his team-mate for the first time in 2015, Rosberg concedes his title chances would have been boosted if Vettel had the pace to hold Hamilton off.

“For the team it was an awesome one-two, but for me personally it would have interesting if Sebastian had stayed in second place, and I would have gained a few extra points on Lewis," Rosberg said. “There’s always that compromise because I know for the team, of course, it’s important.”

However, Rosberg agrees with team boss Toto Wolff who says there are no guarantees Mercedes will hold the same level of advantage in the upcoming races.

“Yes [held Ferrari off] but then again the next races are very unique – Monaco, Montreal – that have very, very special tracks, and unusual things can happen, so let’s wait and see.”
