Rosberg rues ‘rubbish end to qualifying’

Nico Rosberg says he needs to analyse why he had a “rubbish end to qualifying” which prevented him from challenging Lewis Hamilton for pole position in Canada.

Hamilton set provisional pole on his first run by 0.3s from Rosberg, who wasn’t happy with the rear of his Mercedes. While the team told him it expected his second set of tyres to be much better, Rosberg failed to improve on his final run and came over the radio to say: “What a rubbish end to qualifying.”

When asked about his reaction at the end of the session, Rosberg said he was surprised by how his challenge petered out.

“That definitely was the best way to sum it up, yeah, because I was really on a roll, I was feeling good and in the end it just didn’t come together at all. I was just struggling with grip and with this and that so it didn’t work and we need to analyse now where it was.

“I had less rear grip on the first set especially because it was a good lap but I just didn’t go much quicker than that. So it’s disappointing. Anyway, fair play to Lewis, and the race is tomorrow so there’s still some good chances. Here it’s possible to overtake so it’s not over yet.”
