Felipe Massa says Maurizio Arrivabene's pit lane error which saw him step in front of the Williams in FP1 was "dangerous" but joked with the Ferrari team principal afterwards.
Arrivabene stepped off the Ferrari pit wall just as Williams released Massa from his pit box, with the Brazilian having to hit the brakes in the pit lane to avoid a collision. Afterwards the two were seeing laughing on the pit wall, and Massa says he joked Arrivabene was lucky he spotted the incident unfolding.
“I think it was dangerous first of all for him, but then I braked and afterwards it was funny," Massa said. “[Afterwards] I said it’s good that it’s me because maybe if it was another driver he would be hurt!”
With Williams enjoying a one-two in qualifying in Austria last year, Massa says the signs are good for another strong weekend for the team.
“We want to try to repeat the fantastic race as well, with a podium and getting the best in the race. That’s what counts in the end, so I am really looking forward that here it can be possible to do a good weekend.
“If you look at our lap time from today it’s not very good but I don’t think that’s the most important thing, the most important thing is that we tried everything in the car. It seems to be OK, but the long run was good so that’s what counts."
