Happy but still work to do says Vettel

Sebastian Vettel will line up third behind the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Rosberg in tomorrow's Austrian Grand Prix.

The German appeared in contention for pole throughout the session as he clocked in consistent runs in the first two segments of qualifying and even improved on his final run in the last portion, but still remained overpowered by both Mercedes' drivers.

"I thought that we would have a bit of a word in qualifying but unfortunately they (Mercedes) were a bit too quick," said the Ferrari driver. "We tried everything and generally it looked good throughout practice, and preparing for qualifying was a bit tricky for all of us. We set into the groove nicely but in the last part the Mercedes cars seem to be able to turn up the performance quite a bit, looking at those two guys and also the Williams which were a lot closer than in practice."

The Scuderia's race pace this season has usually been on tap come Sunday afternoon although Vettel believes more progress must be made by tomorrow if Ferrari is to contest Mercedes supremacy.

"There is some work for us to do. Overall I'm happy with third but as I said I would have loved to have been a bit closer. I was happy with the car, I think we did a good job, thanks to the team, and we should have a good car in the race."
