Sebastian Vettel is not ruling out winning the 2015 drivers’ championship after taking his second victory of the season.
With both Mercedes drivers struggling in Hungary, Vettel took victory to close within 42 points of the championship lead. While Vettel is still nearly two race wins behind Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari has shown it is able to beat Mercedes on outright pace on two occasions this year rather than when the defending champions run in to reliability issues.
Vettel says he is “realistic” about his title chances but is not willing to rule out winning the championship in his first season with Ferrari.
"There is still a lot of work to do to catch up but you never know," Vettel is quoted as saying by the BBC. "I am sure we will try absolutely everything and try to make the impossible possible. The best way to do that is remain calm and try to do your best and then we see where the journey takes us.”
Despite Vettel’s comments, team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has urged Ferrari to stay grounded after achieving his target of two victories this season.
