The GP2 series has added an extra round to its 2015 calendar which will take place away from an F1 weekend.
Following the cancellation of the German Grand Prix, GP2 organisers have been keen to include an additional round. The series will now return to Bahrain a week before the final round in Abu Dhabi, running as a support weekend to the FIA Six Hours Of Bahrain on November 19-20-21.
GP3 will also race on the same weekend, with the season finale then taking place a week later at the Yas Marina Circuit.
“I am pleased to confirm that we have added Sakhir to our 2015 GP2 calendar in November," GP2 Series CEO Bruno Michel said. "Ever since the announcement of the cancellation of the German event, we have been working hard to try and add a round for our Series.
“It was important that we could keep the costs down for the teams, but also to find a venue that was an added value for the drivers. Bahrain International Circuit was the best option: not only is it a Formula One track, but it makes perfect sense to have it back-to-back with the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.”
McLaren young driver Stoffel Vandoorne currently leads the GP2 standings by 85 points from Rio Haryanto.
