Lewis Hamilton says he feels he “can be better” as he goes in search of his third drivers’ championship in 2015.
The Mercedes driver became a double world champion last season after a year-long battle with team-mate Nico Rosberg which was decided in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton won the title with 11 victories to Rosberg’s five, but he says he has been working hard over the winter to ensure he comes back an even stronger proposition this season.
“I don’t think about anyone’s expectations,” Hamilton told Sky Sports. “For myself, naturally, and as an athlete I always want to be the best that I can be. So anything less than what I did last year is not going to be good enough. But I can be better. There are going to be 20 races this year, there were eight races that I didn’t win [last year], so you can always get better.
“I plan to drive the way I drove last year but hopefully with the knowledge and experience of last year and the growth, with turning 30 and everything. Whether it’s an inch, a foot, a metre or a mile, I want to try and make sure I’m always moving forward.”
Hamilton will drive the new Mercedes W06 on the second and fourth days of testing in Jerez, with Rosberg driving on the first and third days.
