Mercedes boss Toto Wolff enjoyed surely one of the best seats in the house this week for the start of the Mille Miglia classic event in Bresica.
Wolff - along with Aldo Costa, Engineering Director of the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula One team - was at the wheel of an iconic 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 194 Prototype.
Here they are to talk about their stunning ride for the event.
The 2017 race is being held from 18 to 21 May in four stages, running from Brescia to Rome and back for a total of one thousand miles. Cars head west, past Lake Garda to Padua and then south through San Marino to Rome. The third stage takes the drivers north to Parma, with the last leg returning to Brescia on Sunday.
The original Mille Miglia was an open-road endurance race which took place in Italy twenty-four times from 1927 to 1957. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the original event.
Mercedes has been involved since 1930. Factory driver Rudolf Caracciola won in 1931 as the first non-Italian driver in a Mercedes-Benz SSKL with his co-pilot Wilhelm Sebastian.
The automobile club of Brescia has been holding the Mille Miglia since 2012. Only models that competed in the original road race between 1927 and 1957 are eligible to take part.
Mercedes-Benz Classic is competing with ten vehicles from different eras of the historic road race, from the late 1920s to the mid-1950s. Former Mercedes-Benz racing drivers Ellen Lohr, Roland Asch and Bernd Mayländer are among those participating as brand ambassadors.
For the second year running, She’s Mercedes will once again field its own team of five G-Class vehicles as part of the Mercedes-Benz Mille Miglia Challenge.
Participants in the Mercedes-Benz Mille Miglia Challenge will precede the classic cars on the same route. They will also take part in extra special stages.
She’s Mercedes will be represented in a Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet by TV presenters Cristina Chiabotto and Diletta Leotta. Also participating is Pamela Amann, development project manager of the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet.
