Mahindra pit stop gaffe delivers ePrix win to Buemi

.

Mahindra's Felix Rosenqvist missed out on a double whammy win in Berlin today because of a 10-second penalty handed to the Swede for a pit stop blunder committed by his team.

Rosenqvist, who won yesterday's event, lost no time in taking the lead at the start of Sunday's ePrix, manufacturing a comfortable advantage for himself in front of Sebastien Buemi and the DS Virgin Racing duo of Jose Maria Lopez and Sam Bird.

The Mahindra driver headed to the pits for the mandatory car rotation but was released right in the path of his pitting team mate Nick Heidfeld.

A 10-second penalty for unsafe release was confirmed shortly after by the stewards, transforming what looked like an easy second win of the weekend into an improbable challenge.

Buemi, in second place, just one second behind the Swede, played it safe in the second stint, with a distanced Lucas di Grassi hardly a threat to the e.dams driver.

The Swiss thus secured his win from Rosenqvist, di Grassi, Daniel Abt and Lopez rounding out the top five.

Despite his exclusion from yesterday's race for irregular tyre pressures, Buemi has extended his lead in the championship from second-placed man di Grassi by 32 points.
