Red Bull has approached Honda over a power unit supply for 2016 as it looks to try and secure a deal to remain in F1.
Having moved to terminate its contract with Renault a year early, Red Bull was rejected by both Mercedes and Ferrari, leaving it without a power unit deal for next season. F1i understands Red Bull approached Honda in the weeks surrounding the Russian Grand Prix, meaning all four power unit suppliers currently in the sport have been contacted.
Talks between the two parties remain open, however Honda is wary of the associated pressures with potentially agreeing to supply a second team at such short notice.
"We have been approached," a Honda spokesperson told F1i. "However, it is getting very late to try and do something for next season, while there are also contractual obligations to take in to account.
"Nothing has been decided yet."
With Honda returning to F1 this season in partnership with McLaren, F1i understands McLaren has a veto on which other teams Honda can supply.
