Toyota squad excluded from 6 Hours of Silverstone results!

Both Toyota LMP1 entries have been excluded from the results of the 6 Hours of Silverstone following a technical infringement, handing outright victory to the Rebellion Racing squad.

Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima headed home the #7 Toyota sister machine of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez, handing their third consecutive win to the #8 car's crew.

However, post-race scrutineering revealed a skid block deflection problem on both cars that warranted their exclusion from the results!

Rebellion's Gustavo Menezes, Thomas Laurent and Mathias Beche have subsequently been declared the winners of the WEC's third round, edging the team's sister car of Neel Jani and André Lotterer.

SMP Racing's Stephane Sarrazin and Egor Orudzhev also get bumped a spot to claim third overall.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing team did not dispute the stewards' decision:

"Both cars suffered damage to their respective front floor areas during the race due to impacts against the new kerbs at Silverstone," said the manufacturer in a statement.

"Regrettably, this also caused both cars to fail deflection tests in post-race scrutineering. As a result, race stewards disqualified both cars.

"The design and construction of the part concerned has not changed since its introduction at the beginning of the 2017 season. Since then it has successfully passed similar tests, most recently at Spa this season.

"The team is now evaluating its next course of action."
