Following Alexander Albon's successful recruitment by Toro Rosso for 2019, the Nissan e.dams team has signed young Brit Oliver Rowland for its 2018/19 Formula E campaign.
Rowland - a former Renault and Williams development driver who competed in a round of the all-electric series in Uruguay in 2015 with Mahindra - will partner Sebastien Buemi at Nissan e.dams.
"The Formula E championship features some of the best drivers in the world, and it’s an honour to be selected by Nissan e.dams to represent them in season five," said Rowland.
"To be able to work alongside Sebastien is also an incredible opportunity. I’m looking forward to challenging myself against the best of the best in Formula E."
Nissan's first choice for Formula E's sixth season had been Albon, who had effectively signed a deal with the team only for F1 and Red Bull to come calling.
Negotiations ensued between the driver and Nissan e.dams, with the latter initially claiming to be unhappy with its new driver's stance. Ultimately however, team boss Jean-Paul Driot said it would be unfair to stand in the way of Albon's big F1 opportunity.
"When you ask a blind man if he wants to see, you know the answer," said Driot.
"When he [Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko] talked about Formula 1 to a driver who was always dreaming to do so, you know the answer as well."
