Grosjean opens up about Ferrari 'dream'

Haas recruit Romain Grosjean says “I would like to drive for Ferrari before the end of my career”, as his next team enjoys a strong technical partnership with Maranello.

The Frenchman will leave Lotus at the end of the current campaign and join newcomers Haas where he will partner Esteban Gutierrez for the team’s 2016 debut season.

Although he insists he did not join the US squad solely on the basis of how it could help him land a drive at Ferrari, Grosjean remains well aware of the potential benefits he could reap from working closely with the revered Italian outfit.

“Ask any driver in the world and none of them will tell you he doesn't want to drive for Ferrari one day,” he told Sky Sports F1. “It wasn't the main factor [in me signing for Haas] but it was good to know that l can build up a team which has the support of Ferrari.

“If l am in F1, it is to try to be a world champion one day and l felt that going to Haas was the best way of achieving that goal in the near future.

“I think my best years are still to come.”

Grosjean was a dark horse candidate for replacing former Lotus team-mate Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari should Maranello elect not to pick the Finn’s one-year option for 2016.

While some might question his signing for a fledgling outfit like Haas, the 29-year-old, who says he is “taking Italian lessons”, is convinced to have made the right move.

“You create your luck,” added Grosjean. “You try to put everything you can in place and the luck normally comes with it. The more opportunities you create, the better it is.

“Ferrari would be a dream in the next couple of years. Is it two years, or three years, or four years? I don't know. But I would like to drive for Ferrari before the end of my career.”
