A change of scenery likely won't curtail the challenges facing Williams next weekend in Bahrain, but the British team's drivers are determined to give it their best.

The British outfit's FW42 was predictably off the pace in Melbourne, leaving both Robert Kubica and George Russell to make up the rear as they fought an uphill battle that isn't expected to abate any time soon.

Russell even believes that Williams' current deficit is so significant that upcoming races will be considered as test sessions for its troubled 2019 contender.

Come what may, Kubica and Russell are nevertheless determined to make the most of their weekend in the Bahrain desert, a venue appreciated by both drivers based on their past experience of racing at Sakhir.

"Bahrain is a very different track to Australia, so we will face new challenges, including the increased temperature and track layout," Kubica said.

"There are a few things to discover but I know the track pretty well. There is a lot of stop and go so the car has to be very stable under braking and have good traction."

It was over a decade ago, but in 2008 Bahrain was the scene of the Polish driver's single F1 pole position.

"I have good memories of Bahrain as I got my first and only pole position there in 2008 so I am looking forward to it.

"It can get very hot, so tyres will be an important topic to understand and how to best cope with them so let’s see how we go."

Russell won't be in the most comfortable position to tackle his second Grand Prix, but the 21-year-old rookie is still looking forward to getting behind the wheel.

"I am excited to go to Bahrain as it is a track I really like," he said.

"I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for my second Grand Prix.

"Racing in Bahrain is tough as it is a very aggressive circuit, with high tyre wear and temperatures which puts a lot of stress on the cars.

"All in all, I am ready for the challenge and eager to get back in the drivers’ seat."
