Nico Rosberg starts from pole position for the fifth race in a row, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton alongside him. The pair raced cleanly in to Turn 1 in Mexico a fortnight ago, but their remains the potential for another flashpoint between the two Mercedes drivers after contact in Austin.

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen make up row two, with the two Ferraris keen to attack Mercedes at the start in order to be able to upset their race. Nico Hulkenberg starts from fifth place and admits he expects to have to drive a defensive race, with Daniil Kvyat, Valtteri Bottas - who has a three-place grid penalty - and Felipe Massa directly behind him.

Temperatures climbed in the build-up to the race, with the track temperature starting to drop in the minutes before lights out as a result of cloud cover which has formed. There is a 30% chance of rain following a number of heavy thunderstorms in recent days in Sao Paulo.

The race takes place just two days after the terrorist attacks in Paris, with a minute's silence having been held for both the victims from Friday night and those involved in road traffic accidents worldwide. Romain Grosjean is wearing the French flag around his left arm and unveiled a Tricolore during the minute's silence, while all drivers are wearing black armbands after numerous attacks on the French capital.
