Formula 1's visitors to the podium will no longer break out the classical Champagne but celebrate with a splash of sparkling wine following the sport's new endorsement deal with wine maker Ferrari Trento.

The Italian company, which bears no relation to the Scuderia, will take over from Carbon and become for three years Grand Prix racing's official supplier of sparkling wine and will feature prominently on the podium on race day and in F1's Paddock Club.

Ferrari Trento had a brief link with F1 over four decades ago when its product found its way onto the podium of the Italian Grand Prix in 1980, an event held that year at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola.

"In 1980 we were on the podium of the Imola Grand Prix, so we have beautiful pictures from then with great champions," commented Simone Mase, General Manager of the Lunelly Group.

"They have already tasted Ferrari, but now we are partners and we cannot wait to be there."

Let's just hope Ferrari Trento's sparkling wine sizzles more than the cars of its F1 homonym!
