Things are coming to a head for Antonio Giovinazzi, who is expecting either good news or bad news from Alfa Romeo regarding his F1 future.
The 27-year-old Italian is doing his best to try and hold on to his seat with the Swiss outfit amid rumors that he will be replaced by Chinese F2 racer Guanyu Zhou.
In Austin, Alfa team boss Frédéric Vasseur reiterated that he was in no rush to nominate the driver that will be racing alongside new recruit Valtteri Bottas next season.
But with each passing race, Giovinazzi's chances of retaining his drive with the Hinwil squad appear to be dwindling, which has led to a mentally uncomfortable situation for the Italian.
"There is no news yet, no answers," Giovinazzi said ahead of this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix.
"Unfortunately it is like this, for sure it’s not ideal to come at the track, you don’t know what you will do next year or what will happen.
"But it’s like this. Hopefully we will know bad [or] good news soon so at least we know what will happen, it will better for everyone in the team.
"For sure it’s not easy, but there’s nothing I can do. The only thing I can do is drive fast in the car, bring the results. It’s not my decision, I think it’s more [a question] for Fred than for me."
In qualifying trim, Giovinazzi has outperformed teammate Kimi Raikkonen this season, but the Alfa incumbent has also dropped a significant number of points on race day.
"I’m happy that it’s been quite good in qualifying, but something that we miss is points," he acknowledged.
"If we’re looking in also the race result with Kimi, we are in front, but we have less points and this is not good.
"This is what I want, just score more points from here to Abu Dhabi is the main goal for now."
