Porsche has released the first images of Formula E's Gen3 car in action, the German manufacturer putting its car on track at Weissach with works driver Pascal Wehrlein behind the wheel.
The cutting-edge and striking new electric racer – the fastest and most powerful FE car yet – was unveiled last April and will debut in Formula E's Season 9 in 2023.
The innovative new machine is also the first-ever formula car with both front and rear powertrains: a new front powertrain adds 250kW to the 350kW at the rear, more than doubling the regenerative capability of the current Gen2 to a total of 600kW!
Constructed by Spark Racing Technologies, the Gen3 relies on a battery supplied by Williams Advanced Technologies which has taken over the Gen2 supply deal held by McLaren.
“That was a very interesting day and an awesome experience to drive our new Gen3 car for the first time,” said Wehrlein.
“It felt great and I’m excited to test it at full power soon. My initial impressions today were also very good and it made me hungry for more.”
Formula E privately tested its new Gen3 car extensively before its unveiling ahead of the Monaco E-Prix. And teams are now taking delivery of their machines.
Next season, Porsche will field 2019/20 series champion Antonio Felix da Costa alongside Wehrlein as current teammate André Lotterer returns to the World Endurance Championship with Porsche.
