Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton paid a heartfelt tribute to Brazilian icon Pelé who passed away on Thursday at 82.
The legend of all soccer legends and one of the most recognizable faces in sport, Pelé led Brazil to three World Cup wins and helped establish the South American nation as a supreme force in the world's most popular game thanks to his individual virtuosity.
A fan of Formula 1, Pelé visited the paddock on several occasions, in Brazil but also once in Monaco and in Japan.
The famous striker's last visit to Interlagos was in 2006 when he presented Ferrari's Michael Schumacher with a lifetime achievement award ahead of what was to be at the time the German's final F1 race.
"Very sad to hear the news that Pele, one of greatest footballers ever has passed away," said Domenicali in a statement released by Formula 1.
"He was a shining light for Brazil and millions around the world. His skill, smile and brilliance will live on forever. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

Hamilton, who was made an honorary citizen of Brazil earlier this year, took to Instagram to pay tribute to Pelé.
"Lost a legend today," wrote the Mercedes driver. "Thank you for sharing your talent, genius and love with us. Pele’s legacy will inspire us forever and always."
Hamilton also posted a picture of the soccer great holding a Brazilian jersey that he had signed for the Briton.
"Meant so much to get this from the legend himself," he said. "Keeping it safe with me always."
