Formula 1 has confirmed the Monaco Grand Prix will remain a fixture on its calendar until 2035, following the signing of a fresh four-year contract extension with event organiser Automobile Club de Monaco.
The deal marks the second time in less than a year that Monaco’s place in the championship has been extended, after a previous agreement was amended in November of last year.
That earlier renewal came with concessions, including a significant increase in sanctioning fees, reflecting Formula 1’s push for long-term stability in its flagship markets.
Domenicali: “An iconic race loved by all”
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali hailed the new deal as a vital step in securing the sport’s most famous event.
“The streets of Monaco have been echoing with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of the sport, so I’m delighted to announce the extension of this fantastic event to 2035,” Domenicali said.
“It is an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique vibe thanks to its location on the world’s most glamorous Principality. I would like to say a special thank you to His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Michel Boeri, President of the Automobile Club of Monaco and everyone involved in securing the long-term future of this historic partnership.”
A Shift in Tradition
As previously agreed, Monaco will also adjust its date on the calendar. From 2026, the race will no longer take place on its traditional late-May weekend but instead move to the first weekend of June.
The shift prevents the event from clashing with the Indianapolis 500, with the Canadian Grand Prix now scheduled opposite Indy’s showpiece.
While Monaco is widely regarded as the jewel in F1’s crown, its long-term place has not always been assured.
The race has faced criticism in recent years for its lack of overtaking opportunities, with organisers and the FIA experimenting with measures such as mandatory multi-compound strategies to add strategic variety.
Still, its prestige remains unmatched. Having featured on the inaugural Formula 1 world championship calendar in 1950 and every year since 1955, Monaco’s survival as part of the championship until at least 2035 underlines its enduring status as the sport’s ultimate showpiece.
