Legendary Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey – the mastermind behind a plethora of dominant machines – is the high-profile subject of a feature documentary co-produced by Whisper Films and Mark Stewart’s Artist Equity.
The film, aptly titled “Turbulence”, promises to chart Newey’s extraordinary 40-year career while providing an unprecedented look at his latest chapter with Aston Martin.
For the man credited with shaping 12 Constructors’ and 14 Drivers’ Championships across Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, the project brings both reflection and revelation.
A Deep Dive into the Mind of F1’s Master Designer
Newey has long been revered for his aerodynamic genius – most recently demonstrated with Red Bull’s all-conquering RB19, winner of 23 out of 24 races in 2023 before the Briton departed the bulls for Aston Martin.
But despite a résumé so glittering it practically hums, Newey admits he didn’t immediately leap at the idea of a documentary.
“When Mark Stewart approached me about making a docu film, whilst flattered I was initially not sure whether to accept,” Newey revealed.
What changed his mind? The reaction to his 2017 autobiography.
“However, one of the touching things about my 2017 autobiography is the number of letters I have received, relaying how much the book had sparked their interest in and appreciation of the design and engineering that goes into racing cars, how interactive the car design is with the drivers, and how much success is about mindset,” he explained.
“Hopefully this film can portray the passion, the working practice, the strength of mind that is involved in bringing an F1 car to the grid.

“The film charts the challenges I have faced in joining a new team in early March to prepare for what is arguably the biggest regulation change in F1 history. It also delves into the story behind my career up to this point and how it has helped to prepare me for this enormous challenge.
“It’s been a wild ride so far, but F1 never stands still. I hope that the film will capture some of that restless energy, and our constant drive towards improved performance.”
“Turbulence” will follow his transition to Aston Martin, where he has taken on the role of managing technical partner – and from 2026, team principal – just as the sport braces for sweeping new regulations.
A Unique Window into Newey’s Next Big Gamble
Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll, who orchestrated Newey’s high-profile arrival, promised that the film will offer viewers something well beyond standard motorsport fare.
“Adrian Newey is a legend of the sport and the greatest F1 car designer of all time, which is why we brought him into the Aston Martin Aramco family,” Stroll said.
“This documentary will provide unprecedented access to the brilliant mind of Adrian and the inside story behind one of the most exciting projects in world sport.
“We are proud to be working with all partners involved to make this content truly special and unique.”

The company praised Aston Martin’s commitment to openness, promising that Newey’s relentless pursuit of performance – along with the high-pressure world of elite F1 engineering – will be laid bare.
With full collaboration from Aston Martin and a production team steeped in motorsport storytelling, “Turbulence” aims to be the definitive portrait of the most influential designer the sport has ever seen.
For Newey, who says F1 “never stands still,” the documentary marks yet another chapter in a career defined by constant reinvention. And now, fans will get to follow every twist in the airflow.
