Mercedes has fired the first silver bullet of Formula 1’s new era, unveiling the W17 – its 2026 challenger – complete with a refreshed livery and cutting-edge technology designed for one of the sport’s biggest resets in its history.
Pulled into the spotlight ahead of its on-track debut next week in Barcelona, the W17 is Mercedes’ answer to the sweeping new regulations governing both chassis and power units.
Active aerodynamics, radically revised energy deployment and a near-even split between combustion power and electrification define the machine that will carry the Silver Arrows into uncharted territory.
Visually, the car stays true to its roots. The familiar black and silver palette remains, accented by flashes of turquoise in tribute to long-time partner Petronas.
One new detail immediately catches the eye, however: Microsoft branding now sits proudly on the airbox and front wing endplates, marking the alliance between Mercedes and the tech giant.
Ready For F1’s Great Reset
Team principal Toto Wolff framed the W17 not as a finished product, but as a statement of intent as Formula 1 turns the page.
“Formula 1 will undergo significant change in 2026, and we are prepared for that transition,” Wolff said.
“The new regulations demand innovation and absolute focus across every area of performance. Our work on the new car, and the long-term development of the power unit and advanced sustainable fuels with Petronas, reflects that approach.
"Releasing the first images of the W17 is simply the next step in that process. It represents the collective, sustained effort of our teams in Brixworth and Brackley. We will continue to push hard in the months ahead.”

Continuity remains a key pillar of Mercedes’ approach on the driver front. George Russell returns as team leader after finishing fourth in last year’s championship, alongside rising star Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who impressed in his rookie campaign to claim seventh overall.
Together, they will aim to turn promise into consistent victories.
Mercedes heads into 2026 seeking a step forward after finishing second in the constructors’ standings last season.
While the team comfortably fended off Red Bull, it never truly threatened a McLaren outfit that set the pace throughout the year – a reality that has only sharpened the motivation behind the W17 project.
The new Silver Arrow will roll out for the first time at pre-season testing in Barcelona from 26-30 January, before Mercedes hosts its official season launch on 2 February.
From there, the stopwatch – and a brand-new era of Formula 1 – will truly begin.
