Sebastian Vettel says he and Ferrari head to this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix aiming to repeat their 2015 success at Sepang.
The four-time world champion joined the Scuderia from Red Bull ahead of last year’s campaign, and it took him only a couple of races to win for Ferrari. Lining up second on the grid after splitting the Mercedes in qualifying, Vettel went one better in the race after a stunning drive in scorching conditions.
“We did very well last year, so we’ll try to repeat what we did,” the 29-year-old said. “For sure the first win with Ferrari was very emotional and very special.
“We had a great race and a fun night after that. So, I have good memories and I am looking forward to going back to Malaysia and hit the track.”
With four Malaysian GP victories to his name - Vettel also won the Kuala Lumpur contest in 2010, 2011, and 2013 for Red Bull - the German is the most successful driver at Sepang and hopes to increase this tally to finally put Ferrari in the win column this year.
“It’s is usually the hottest race of the season… I think it’s very challenging. You have a lot of high-speed corners. It’s very tough on tyres… There are chances of rain at some point of the race. There are thunderstorms there nearly every day.
“It’s not easy to get everything right but if you do it, it feels great. It’s one of those places that challenges you. But if you get on top of it it’s a great feeling that we had last year and obviously the target is to have it again.”
