Yesterday, British engineer James Allison made his first public appearance as Mercedes' new technical director. The man who replaces Paddy Lowe was appointed earlier this year following the end of his gardening leave which started in July 2016 when he left Ferrari. The 48-year-old designer joins too late to have any input into the 2017 car but will be fully involved in its development during the season and that of the 2018 model.
