Michele Alboreto scored an unexpected victory on this day in 1983, winning the Detroit Grand Prix and bringing the Tyrrell team its ultimate F1 triumph.
The 26-year-old took full advantage of the troubles that befell the faster turbocharged cars of Nelson Piquet and René Arnoux, driving for Brabham and Renault respectively.
Alboreto led home a trio of Cosworth runners, with Williams' Keke Rosberg and McLaren's John Watson completing the podium.
And by the way, the race was also the 155th and last win in Formula 1 of the legendary Ford Cosworth DFV engine.
