Luca Badoer was no super-sub for Felipe Massa

On this day in 2009, Luca Badoer was named as Felipe Massa's replacement by Ferrari, but it was a nightmare spell for the rusty Italian.

The Italian, who had failed to impress during his spell in F1 a decade earlier, was called upon following Massa's freak accident in Hungary where the trusty Brazilian was struck by a metal spring from another car.

However, what seemed like an unexpected dream drive for Badoer quickly turned into a nightmare, with Ferrari's sub struggling to extract any speed from his car and ending a massive two seconds off the pace of team leader Kimi Raikkonen.

After lackluster performances in Valencia and Spa, Ferrari put Badoer out of his misery and replaced him from Monza with Giancarlo Fisichella.
