Formula 3 already was a formidable breeding ground to nurture future grand prix stars in the 1960s. Pictured above is a youthful Emerson Fittipaldi learning the ropes in a Jim Russell-entered Lotus at Brands Hatch in 1969. The Brazilian, who would become a double F1 world champion with McLaren (1972 and 1974), was racing against a talented bunch that year, which included the likes of James Hunt, Ronnie Peterson, and Jean-Pierre Jarier.
