Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez warmed up to this weekend's Australian Grand Prix with a few demo laps of Albert Park on Thursday onboard a pair of Supercars.
Four 20-lap Supercars sprint events are on F1's support bill in Melbourne and Alonso and Perez were delighted to sample the V8-powered muscle machines.
In a first in their respective motorsport careers, Alonso took to the track onboard Thomas Randle’s Tickford Castrol Mustang while Perez was entrusted with a Red Bull Ampol Racing Commodore.
"It's between a GT3 and a NASCAR," commented Alonso after his run. "It's heavier and softer on the corners, but then you feel the power, the V8... the noise is amazing.
"It's good fun [to drive], because the cars a very similar to each other on the grid. They are only separated by one second, so I've heard, and with 25 cars, that's amazing."
Perez was equally enthralled by his experience and singled-out his biggest challenge provided by the Triple Eight Holden Commodore.
"I think the braking. The braking efficiency, cornering, the corner speed is quite different," said the Red Bull driver.
"But also, it’s very good fun the amount of kerb you are able to take. In Formula 1 you are very limited with that and here you pretty much are able to use the whole track.
"It’s quite tricky. It was quite an experience. It was really good fun."
