Tony Gaze was the first Australian to compete in grand prix, with the World War II pilot taking his maiden F1 start in Belgium in 1952. Gaze would also race in Great Britain, Germany, and Italy and while his success was limited, he somehow paved the way for the likes of triple world champion Jack Brabham, 1980 winner Alan Jones, nine-time grand prix victor Mark Webber and current Red Bull star Daniel Ricciardo.
