Eddie Irvine was born on this day in 1965 in Newtownards, Northern Ireland.

Irvine made his debut in Formula 1 with the Jordan team in 1993 and later moved to Ferrari in 1996, where he spent four seasons.

Known for his outspoken and charismatic personality, Irvine gained a reputation as a colorful character both on and off the track.

His time at Ferrari coincided with the era of Michael Schumacher, and Irvine played a crucial role as Schumacher's teammate, contributing to the team's success.

His most significant achievement with the Scuderia came in 1999, when he picked up the baton from Schumacher after the latter’s crash at the British GP, and finished as the runner-up in the Drivers' Championship, just behind Mika Häkkinen.

After leaving Ferrari, Irvine continued to race for Jaguar Racing before retiring from Formula 1 at the end of the 2002 season.
