Former F1 driver and Sky F1 commentator Martin Brundle returned to the cockpit last weekend for the Spa Six Hours, but the checkered flag proved elusive.
Brundle teamed up with his son Alex and Gary Pearson in a historic Ford GT40, tackling the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in what he described as “a rare opportunity for a father and son weekend.”
The 66-year-old kicked off the race, completing roughly two hours before Pearson and then Alex took over. Sadly, the GT40’s engine lost oil pressure late in the endurance event, forcing the trio to retire.
Alex explained the decision on social media:
"Unfortunately we were forced to retire at Spa Six Hours. With around 2hrs to go and a valiant stint from @MBrundleF1 to box P5 overall. Our engine lost oil pressure. And I thought stopping the car might be better than owning a nice V8-shaped coffee table. We’ll be back."
Despite the early exit, the Brundles enjoyed their race weekend together, proving that even in retirement, Martin’s passion for racing remains as strong as ever. They‘ll be back!
