Nearly two years without a win. This must feel like an eternity for Fernando Alonso whose last victory to date in Formula One traces back to the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix. Lining up fifth on home soil, the two-time world champion had a mega start and vaulted himself to third on the opening lap. Clever strategy and sheer racecraft enabled the Ferrari driver to claim his second success in 2013 after China, his 32nd in the sport. Sitting third in the Drivers’ standings after the event, Alonso was then confident of a strong title challenge. But the mighty combination of Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel would eventually hit their stride in the second half of the season and secured nine wins on the trot to easily wrap up their fourth championship.
