McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso recently took to his Twitter account to share a picture of himself driving Ayrton Senna’s 1988 title-winning MP4/4 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The picture was taken while the Spaniard and team-mate Jenson Button were shooting ‘Don’t Crack Under Pressure’, a special movie honouring McLaren’s 30-year partnership with TAG Heuer set to be released today.
Alonso also posted an image of himself at a young age and behind the wheel of a pedal car that sports the iconic red-and-white livery brought to fame by McLaren and its Japanese engine supplier during their first partnership.
The two-time world champion has always been a fan of Senna and returned to Woking with a view to emulating his idol’s achievements. The late Brazilian secured three titles (1988, 1990, 1991) across his 10-year career, all with McLaren-Honda.
The 1988 MP4/4 remains one of the most dominant F1 cars ever seen in the sport. Senna and nemesis Alain Prost won 15 out of 16 Grand Prix that year while also claiming all but one pole position along the way.
‘Don’t Crack Under Pressure’also comes one day after McLaren-Honda revealed its revised graphite-grey livery.
