Carlos Sainz will have to start the Monaco Grand Prix from the pit lane after being penalised by the stewards after qualifying.
Sainz failed to stop at the FIA weighbridge during Q1, for which he was investigated during the session. Having qualified in eighth place, Sainz was subsequently punished with a pit lane start for the error, with the stewards unhappy the team did not point out the mistake to the driver.
"The driver failed to stop for weighing during Q1 when signalled to do so by the red traffic light, the car was not returned to the FIA garage and work was undertaken," the stewards' decision read.
As a result of the penalty, Pastor Maldonado moves up to eighth on the grid ahead of Max Verstappen and Jenson Button, marking the first time a McLaren will start in the top ten this season.
