Sebastian Vettel has been handed a five place grid penalty following an incident under red flags which occurred during final practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.

FP3 was halted for a second time when Jenson Button stopped at Turn 7 and marshals were required on track to recover the McLaren. Having already passed the incident, Vettel overtook Roberto Merhi's Manor on the run down to the pit lane.

With cars not permitted to overtake under red flag conditions, Vettel has subsequently been hit with a five place grid penalty for tomorrow's race. He has also been given three penalty points for the incident, the first three he has acquired in the 12 month period.

Vettel originally qualifying 16th after reliability issues but was promoted to 15th due to Max Verstappen's pending grid penalty. With Jenson Button failing to take part in qualifying, Vettel has been listed as starting 18th ahead of Verstappen and Button on the provisional grid.
