ART Grand Prix co-owner Frédéric Vasseur is in line to become the manager of Renault F1's new works team.
Vasseur, who has steered ART to numerous championship wins, mainly in GP2, boasts impressive credentials which make him, despite a lack of F1 experience, the most likely candidate to oversee the French manufacturer's direct return to the helm of the sport.
F1i understands that Cyril Abiteboul is to remain the managing director og Renault Sport F1 based at Viry-Châtillon, while Alain Prost would act as a consultant to the firm on the sporting and commercial fronts.
Vasseur co-founded ART along with Nicolas Todt and fostered the careers of many current Grand Prix drivers (Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Bottas, Grosjean, Hülkenberg, etc...). The Frenchman is also close to Mercedes through his DTM tie-up as well as a supplier to the Formula E series through his Spark Technologies company.
